When it comes to CNG stations, we love helping other people build them! We’ve built and maintain our own, so we know what works. Our team has supported the construction of more than 200 CNG stations across the U.S. since 2014—for both private fleets and public access stations.
Depending on your project needs and location, we can perform the role of mechanical contractor, specialty subcontractor (interconnect piping materials), or material supplier.

Before starting a project, we interface with the engineers to ensure that the piping specification and mechanical piping and instrumentation diagrams are current and complete. Using the project plan, we create a take-off and bill of materials that identifies the piping materials and job site tooling that will be necessary to complete the build, which translates to only buying exactly what is needed.
In order to minimize our on-site installation time, we carefully measure and document the job site so that we can pre-fabricate and assemble as much equipment as possible in our manufacturing/assembly shop environment. This time-saving approach has worked well for a range of materials, including interconnect piping, electrical enclosures, time fill post assemblies, and more.

Once the new assembly of gas piping and tubing is complete, we perform and certify the station. While we do both traditional pneumatic testing, we recommend hydrostatic testing —especially on larger systems and ones which involved third-party contractors. We have proven this testing method to be safer than pneumatic testing at high pressures, as well as more convenient and cost effective. Following hydrostatic testing, we draw vacuum on the tubing to ensure the moisture we introduced is completely removed before completing installation.
At InsightFuel, the quality of the materials we use is second to none. Because we specialize in the CNG fueling infrastructure market, the materials we specify and use have been developed for, or adapted for, optimized performance with high pressure compressed gas. All of our tubing and hose assemblies, fittings, valves and fuel system accessories are ASME B31.3 code rated for 5,500 psig pressure (the most common design pressure for CNG storage vessels). Our continuous length heavy wall coiled tubing replaces high pressure welded pipe that is labor intensive to install and has multiple potential leak points above and below ground.
Our UV-resistant, high-density polyethylene conduit provides a quick solution to protect underground tubing from chafing against adjacent tubes and water.
Our fueling hose assemblies are certified to NGV 4.2 and available in single line and twin line OD sizes from ¼” – 1”.
We stock and fusion weld 2” – 6” MDPE/HDPE Class 7, 9, or 11 pipe for quick, cost-effective installations from the meter set assembly to dryer inlet transition pipe.
We install test port fittings at logical locations throughout a station to make station testing and maintenance easy to complete.
We build single, dual, and quad time fill posts and emergency stop posts with options for ground, caisson, or K-Rail mounting.
