Background on Energy Credits

The federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and various state Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) programs created a market for biofuels and trade-able energy credits. Producer credits are issued renewable identification numbers, or RINs. That’s what gets bought and sold.

Biofuel producers (landfills, dairy & hog farms, and waste water treatment plants) have to certify their production “pathway” by creating an auditable Quality Assurance Plan in order to produce RNG eligible for energy credits.

We start with the site Quality Assurance Plan (or we can help you create it!).  Specific-gravity meters are installed at key points in the gas gathering, processing, and distribution system.  These meters measure gas volume, composition and energy content, compensating for variations in temperature, pressure, flow, and water content to give highly accurate methane content readings.

P&ID of Meter Locations

Data is relayed from transmitters on each meter to a central site controller which can accept up to 4 inputs per transmitter (leaving 1 channel available for remote diagnostics).  Transmitted data is formatted and displayed on a Human Machine Interface for real-time reporting and programming.
